The Worst BUT Best Thing

Friday 1st July 2011

Finally we were leaving London to head to Warick in Warickshire for orientation to start out new job at The Lazy Cow. We jumped on the train at 9am and headed to Warwick where we were going to work for a week before being sent to Salisbury! It took us 4 hours on the train to get to Warwick as we got a bit lost. We got to the Lazy cow and they gave us a FREE drink and a FREE meal (LUSH). We got taken to where we were staying and we are staying in a town house with Bonnie (an Aussie Girl 24) and Keeno (a Spanish guy 27). Richard one of the Managers at the Lazy Cow gave us a tour of the pub and showed us the menus and what they serve on the menu. Jess had her own room and I shared with Bonnie. Jess and I were buggered and went to sleep at 8.30pm.

Saturday 2nd July 2011

Jess and I woke up at 6pm this morning so we decided to go for a walk and see the sites of Warwick. We went to check out Warwick Castle but couldn’t find it and as we were walking we were taking photos and some fellas were like “are you taking photos of us?” and I’m like “No!” and they are like “You’re breaking my heart” HAHAHAHA - what jokers!
We came across some markets and bought 8 cupcakes for like 6 pound and they looked and tasted Delicious Mmmm we also had breakfast for 2, bought mandarins, bananas, deodorant, toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, 2 towels,  cereal, 2 dry shampoos, exfoliating scrub and makeup remover all for 60 pounds… bargain I reckon! We went to the pub down from where we were staying for lunch and Jess had a chicken Melt and I had Nachos… Not too bad and for like 7 pound each!
We started work at 4pm and worked until 10pm the first shift was ok and Charlotte Smith (the best girl in the whole world) helped me out heaps. It was very scary and there is so much to learn but once I learn I should be ok at it! Knowing the steaks will be the hardest… After the Shift my Feet killed me and I got massive blisters on my feet!!! We went home and crashed!!!

Sunday 3rd July 2011

Jess and I worked at 11am today… Paul (Manager of Warwick TLC) came and told us that we were going to Salisbury for the night to help out with the opening of the restaurant tomorrow. Leeza a girl from Australia trained me today and she taught me so much. She gave me an awesome opportunity to serve customers and explained what to do and what not to do. Jeff a guy from Australia also trained me today and he was really good as well! Jeff sat me down and went through the menu as well as the different steaks etc.

Russ, Jess, Inny, Jeff and me

Jess and I left for Salisbury around 5pm with Russ, Inny and Jeff in Russ’ Range Rover (Flash as Leather Seats and the seats warm and there is cameras on all sides of his car!). Inny is from Kazakhstan and works at TLC and Russ is a really good friend of the owner of TLC... Inny and Russ are really cool people and we had a good laugh with them on the way to Salisbury. When we got there we got straight into cleaning the rooms of the hotel. We finished around 11.30pm and had dinner with the owners of TLC and went to bed.

Monday 4th July 2011

We woke up at 7am stripped our bed, made it and cleaned our bathroom. Jess and I then headed down stairs to help with the opening of the restaurant. We stayed in Salisbury until 2pm helping out and taking bulk photos with Inny and Jeff. Then left and went to Stonehenge. It was really interesting to hear about the history behind Stonehenge… it was built thousands of years ago but is a mystery as no one knows what it was used for and how it was built as there was no machines to lift the rocks onto each other. And the rocks are perfectly carved by hand so it must have been done by someone or something???

Stone Henge

We got stuck in traffic for 2 hours and didn’t get back to Warwick until 6.30pm… Jess and I headed down to the lazy Cow for a feed as we hadn’t eaten all day. Jess got the pork chops and I got the Steak with chips and green beans and portabello mushrooms.

Tuesday 5th July 2011

I woke up this morning to Paul Browns voice in the house where we were staying and I looked out the window and he was walking away. Paul is the Manager of TLC in Warwick. He is up himself a bit and if he was any shorter he would look like a dwarf… I walked down stairs and Jess was pulling the clothes of the railing. I asked her why was Paul Brown was here and she said, "he just walked in and was like I’ve been on the phone to the Neighbours all f***ing morning and I have had so many f***ing complaints about this house." Jess said she just apologized and he still was not happy. We started work today at half 11 (as the Pommy’s say) and Jess and I decided that we shouldn’t have to put up with crap like that from people (Paul Brown) who think they are better than us we came to the UK for a good time not to be treated like crap!

WE QUIT!!!

We left work at 11.30am, headed back to the house where we were staying and packed our things. We rang Charlotte and Jeff to tell them we were leaving and Charlotte ran from her house to the train station to say good bye - Bless Her! We got out of Warwick as soon as we could and we never looked back!

We miss you Charlotte Xx

Brisbane - Seoul - London

Mum, dad and I - Brisbane Airport 28/6/11
Waking up in Brisbane on the morning of the beginning of our big adventure must have been one of the most scariest yet most exciting days of my life. 28th of June 2011 we left Australian soil, my much loved home for the past 21 years. We had to be at the airport at 5.30am for an 8.30am flight from Brisbane International airport to Seoul in North Korea. Mum, Dad and Tracy took Jess and I to the airport. We all sat down for one last breakfast together before Jess and I had to venture down the stairs to check in and go through customs. There were lots of tears and lots of hugs before we went down the stairs. Even my tough truckie dad was crying, I didn't realise how much he was actually going to miss me! Mum, Dad and Tracy waved from the balcony above and we spoke on the phone one more time before Jess and I had to get on the plane.

My last breakfast in Aus - it's gotta be Red ;)
10 hours and 20 minutes on a flight seemed like it was going to take forever, until 'Korean Air' decided to hand out peanuts and soft drink - BEST PEANUTS EVER. I asked for more and they gave me anoter 5 packets. At this stage Jess didn't like nuts so I got hers too, WINNING! Jess had a Window seat and I had the isle seat. There were bulk movies and games plus a little remote control, just for us! We arrived in Seoul at about 5.25pm and were immediately transported to a hotel by a purple bus. The Koreans drive on the wrong side of the road which I didn't realise and then when I did decided to yell it out "We are on the wrong side of the road Jess" the people across from us were not impressed. HA Seoul was very dirty city and you could litterally see the pollution in the air. But all that aside Korean Air provided us with a Buffet Dinner and Buffet breakfast… LUSH!

After spending the night in a hotel in Seoul we were transported back to the airport for our flight at 12.25pm. Before flying to London we went to “Chow Buffet” where we had awesome food and awesome Ice Cream well Jess reckons anyway haha! Our flight from Seoul to London Heathrow was 11 hours and we arrived in London around 4:25pm. As we landed I spewed, luckily no one heard me - poor jess!!! We got the train to Putney Bridge in London and walked to the EGOLI Hostel. We crashed at about 10pm and couldn’t believe that the sun was still up. The drivers in London are crazy too. I think they think they are the only people on the road… People are so lovely here though on our way to Egoli Hostel we had to carry our luggage up and down stairs but everytime we had to do it whoever was around would offer to do it for us! (Oh how things have change haha)

Our first full day in London and I woke up at 2am… Darn Jetlag. Wide awake I hoped on Facebook and eventually drifted off back to sleep! I woke up at 7am and Jess and I headed out for breakfast to Cafe Nero! We covered all the touristy places and thanks to my awesome work mates back home Jess and I got to go on the London Eye and the London River Cruise. The London Eye was 134 metres High and you could see right across London - Luckily it was a lovely sunny day!

The Beginning

I already regret not starting a travel blog when I first started our big adventure (when I say "our" I mean myself and Jess Ryan) so here goes nothing, with no more regrets!

So I am firstly going to date it back from when we first came over to the United Kingdom in June 2011. It is a bit of wacky but wonderful adventure and I will fill you in on the way.
Sit back and enjoy the ride as you have a little insight of my life abroad!!!
